As the DGFX WeatherTech SportsCar Series heads into the penultimate round of the West Season at Road America, both the Prototype and GTD championships are still up for grabs. Round 3 of the West Season at Laguna Seca not only saw two teams capture their first wins in class, but also jumped both of them into the lead of the championship in their respective class.

Leading the Prototype field is the new for the West Season, vApex Racing Group - Green. After scoring back to back second place finishes in the opening two rounds of the West Season, vApex Racing Group - Green broke through to take their first victory of the season and the first of 2016 for the vApex Racing camp.

Team Manager, David Jaques, has a very calm and realistic outlook on the remaining races. "Since it is such a short season, even though there are only 2 races left, a lot can still happen. Everyone is really please with how things have gone so far. Mikey [Grems] has been setting a fine pace, and we've been lucky with our strategies. The focus for Road America will be much the same as previous races; put in a solid run, keep the car clean, and let the endurance race sort things out."

The battle for the GTD Championship is still very tight with five teams in contention, all within twenty-six points of each other. Online-SimRacing.de broke through for the team's first win of the season and as with vApex Racing, the camp's first win of 2016 in either class. The win shot Online-SimRacing.de up in the points from fifteen points down in fourth, to first place with a six point lead. The #991 BMW Z4 GT3 was able to make the most of an attrition filled race in the GTD class in the previous round which allowed them to make such a big jump in points.

We could tell that Online-SimRacing.de are thrilled with how the season is going right now after talking with Team Manager, Stefan Waldherr. "At the beginning of the West Season we really did not expect at all that we will be in the lead after 3 races. On the one side because there are really strong competitors and we are not really the fastest, but we are used to endurance racing and our highest goal on every race is 'finishing without bigger issues' because we all know: To finish first - first you have to finish."

"With being in front - at least for the moment - is a great reward for our work and for sure we are really happy about that. Not to forget that winning at Laguna Seca was some kind of the most unexpected things. Wolfgang [Wildenauer] does not really like the track and if someone would have said that we can finish in the top 5, we would have made a contract on that. But the format and the way the races work in this series make them really look like in reality. You do not have to be the fastest all the time to win. Sometimes you just may have a little bit of luck or a lucky hand in strategy."

While both teams are going to strive for an incident free race, the other championship contenders are going to be on a charge to make sure they are in the best position going into the season finale at Circuit of the America's. Next weekend's race will be broadcast live by Global Sim Racing Channel.
