RACE NOTES
***P1 and GT AM classes saw their third different race winners this season. Scuderia REC, Kinetic Racing and Wyvern Racing are the three different winning teams in P1 while PCDC Motorsports, Pineapple Racing and AVA Vervatic are the three different winning teams in GT AM.
***Wyvern Racing and Bad Cactus Racing, the two P2 teams that moved to the P1 class prior to Round 3 at Barber, came away with the top two steps on the podium, respectively, on their maiden voyages in the P1 class. Wyvern Racing's win also marks the first win for the Audi R18 in the P1 class this season.
***Team Huesinkveld in the P2 class became the first team of the season to claim back to back wins after winning at Daytona and Barber.
***As we are at the 1/2 way point of the season, all four class championship leaders have opened up a double digit point gap back to second place in the championship with the biggest gap being in the GT PRO class of 26 points.
***Team's start to prepare for Monza which will be the first race DGFX will host using the new day to night, or shall we say night to day, transition. Green flag is scheduled to drop somewhere between an hour and an hour and a half prior to sunrise and run into the morning hours. Official in sim start time and date is still TBD.
LEAGUE ORGANIZER'S NOTES
***We are currently in communication with GSRC working on getting the qualifying of all classes broadcasted before the race. Both DGFX and GSRC have agreed upon a new schedule for qualifying which meats the needs of both the league as well as GSRC and are just trying to finalize the man power to be able to cover the extra time for the broadcast.
***The pole sitter of the GT PRO class did not do the start procedure properly at the start of the race as well as jumped the start. The leader was not in the speed window and he went before the acceleration zone.
***After post race review, League Organizers found that in the final caution period there was an error in Race Control with not giving a wave by to car #212 who should have received one and giving a double wave by to a GT AM car (#327) that should not have received one. This coupled with the fact that the GT AM car in question did not take their wave-by(s) in a timely manner caused 9 teams (cars #281, #282, #301, #101, #133, #169, #255, #213, and #283) to get a penalty for "Passing Under Yellow" when they entered pit lane.
***Unfortunately after internal discussion we are unsure as to why the above happened but because of this we are looking into getting a voice recording bot into Discord. This will allow us the ability to record all Race Control communications and review everything that not only happened on track but also discussed in Race Control. In the future in case something like this does happen again we will be able to review everything that happened, learn from our mistakes and improve our systems so we can make changes and improve our internal systems to avoid problems going forward.
***With another race with a lot of backlash about them participating, League Organizers Ed Voras and Kyle Birnie are reviewing their position as both participants and in Race Control for the remainder of the season.
"We are here to race just as much as everyone else is here to race. After all that is why we are on iRacing" said Voras. "But we want to make sure that us racing doesn't affect how the league is being run during the races. We are evaluating everything and will come to a decision as soon as possible before Monza on whether or not we will continue racing this season or step back and just be in Race Control. Obviously we are always looking for more people to join us in Race Control however even with all of the bickering, only a couple of people have stepped up."
Birnie has similar, although more passionate, thoughts on the topic. "I find it interesting that people complain about Ed and I racing and say that we shouldn't be both racing and in Race Control and should only be in Race Control, but don't offer any help. Why should we not be able to enjoy the league that we have built up and created? What really gets to me though I don't think most understand or know and that is during the races if we are not behind the wheel, we are in Race Control which means the other person is flying solo. No additional spotter, no crew chief, no one to talk to and when we get out of the car we don't take a break since we jump right into Race Control. Yet we have the highest CPI in the field by a big margin, Ed has an outstanding CPI for himself and we are not just out for a Sunday drive, we are competitive and fighting up front for podiums and wins. How is it that even though we have more on our plate than any other team, we are able to get fewer incidents than any other team on the grid?
"Personally I feel that people need to stop blaming Ed, myself and Race Control for all the problems and focus on themselves. Under green flag conditions, driver's wreck each other, Race Control doesn't. Under caution periods Race Control issues wave-by's and the driver's don't take them or proceed as they should in a timely manner. Both of those neither Ed, myself or Race Control have any control over. Sure mistakes happen on both ends and we are not expecting anyone to be perfect as we are humans. But when we have 19 cautions in the first three races (6 at Silverstone, 10 at Daytona, 3 at Barber) only 3 of which had mistakes by Race Control [pit exit at Silverstone (which was on the drivers as much as it was on Race Control), one unneeded caution at Daytona, and a double wave by at Barber] and yet almost every caution period we are telling drivers if you have a wave by to take it when they don't. That's not on Race Control.
"At the end of the day though we do not want to see the league fall apart and we will do what we feel is best for the league. If that means us stepping down as drivers for the remainder of the season, then we will. We are looking at all options currently and having a long discussion internally with the Competition Committee on what the best step forward would be."
***We are looking into getting Live Timing and Scoring available on the League Website for teams to use if they wish.
***Currently we use JRT in Race Control however after talking with partner series NEO, we are looking into possibly making a transition to ATVO for the upcoming round.
